Course Description:

This course introduces the basic elements of the Spanish language within a cultural context. Emphasis is on the development of basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

There are two main objectives to the course. The first is to give the students the ability to carry on a simple conversation. The second is to provide students with instruction that teaches a basic understanding of Spanish culture, vocabulary and grammatical concepts.

Week 1– The Alphabet.

Spelling names.

Greetings. Say your name and ask about someone’s name.


Week 2-Ask about nationalities.

Talk about the languages that you speak.

Learn how to form questions.

Week 3– Numbers 0-10.

Ask and talk about the place where you live.

Ask and say your telephone number.

Ask and say your email address.

Week 4– Numbers 20-100.

Ask and say your age.

Ask and say your marital status.


Week 5– Revision week.

Week6–  Talk about your family.

Physical features and personality characteristics.

Week 7 and Week 8– Numbers 100-10000.

Ask how much  an item costs in a shop.

Learn the vocabulary of the classroom/objects.

Week 9– Describing your city.

Differences between the verb Ser and Estar.

Talk about the geographical location of a city.

Week 10– Final Revision.


COURSE TITLE: Spanish for Beginners 2

Course Description:This course is a continuation of the Spanish Beginners 1 course. Emphasis is on the development of basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Pronunciation, comprehension, and writing are emphasized. The course will enable the students to speak and write simple Spanish in a range of everyday situations. This course also introduces students to a rich cultural context.

Week  1- My house and my bedroom

Describing a house.

Describing your bedroom.

Use of prepositions.

Week2- The time and directions.

Asking for directions in a city.

Timings in public places,shops etc

Telling the time and days of the week.

Week 3. Expressing likes and dislikes.

Talk about things that you like and dislike. The verb Gustar

Culture-Spanish and  South American music.

Week 4-Revision Week

Week 5 and 6.-Food and Restaurants.

Shopping food items in a supermarket.

Order a meal in a restaurant.

Understand and read  food menus.

Week 7-Talk about your daily routine.
