English / Arabic Calligraphy Painting (Beginners)

Course Objective:

To familiarize new students, the different alphabets with the pronunciation will be taught.
Students will be guided to develop ideas incorporating calligraphy into painting. Within the course, students can either adhere to strict codes of calligraphy or be spontaneous with rhythmic styles indulging in all kinds of fanciful modifications of the forms of words. Various techniques and composition are also taught during the process of the artwork. Calligraphy can be a very colorful creation. With collages that can have an abstract look or with oriental motifs and arches, using large areas of saturated colors on canvas can give an antique look.
Students would need 1 large canvas (30×36)or 2 medium canvases (16 x 20) depending on their choice of painting.

Calligraphy classes are also available for kids aged 5- 15 on Saturdays.

 

Material Required

Arabic Calligraphy pen with ink cartridges or traditional reed pen (qasb) with ink pot, single line A4 size spiral notebook. Stationery includes an eraser, 2 pencils, a sharpener and ruler. Fotostats about Arabic Calligraphy background and scripts for references as well extra copies for students to practice at home.
Acrylic paints, plastic pallets, turpentine substitute, pastels, tracing paper, chart paper for composing work, gold leaf, glue, etc and other essentials needed to do painterly work.
The above material feels stated below is paid to the teacher in 1st Class to cut down overall cost materials for students.

It’s 180 dhs for 8 weeks and 160 dhs for 6 weeks.

The student will have to get canvass according to their and chosen medium, brushes Winsor and Newton short flat bright in size 12 and 4, as well round size 0 for fine work. Besides 2 empty glass bottles for cleaning brushes.

English Calligraphy

Calligraphy is an art itself whether English or Arabic.
Beauty is in writing with smooth lines and precision. Students are taught to write first on A4 size pad with pen, different fonts to choose from depending on student choice and requirements.
Enlarge according to the size of canvas, do it either in painterly form or ideas about doing collages of poem or prose in a painting.

Materials:
Calligraphy pen with cartridges, A4 size writing pad, pencil, eraser, sharpener, extra stationery, tracing paper, pastels etc ( for dhs 200 ) to be paid to the teacher as to avoid time wastage in class, looking and finding materials is a challenging task.
Students will have to get brushes and canvas depending on their choice of work.

Students will be provided with photo-stated samples of various scripts and writing styles of Arabic calligraphy, as well as short history of the subject. Students can choose from 3 prevalent styles that are Ruqa, Deewani, or Naskhi.

You will master a style first with the calligraphic pen on paper then be guided on how to incorporate calligraphy within a painting or give it a painterly form on canvas. It could be Quranic verse of religious significance, abstract composition of alphabets or any composition of words. The first 3 classes will enable students to write alphabets with pen and ink and the rest will be devoted for paintwork.

1. Pre-registration is required for all classes and payments to be made in advance.
2. Students must attend classes they have registered for and paid for.
3. Makeup classes are provided and refunds are issued only if the art center cancels any lessons.
